Staying Safe On A Cruise

Even in the best cruise lines, there are always going to be people on board whose intentions are less than honorable.

To help you keep from becoming a victim, and to help you stay safe on the cruise in general, follow these simple guidelines:

1. Attend lifeboat drills

One of the first things that will happen on the cruise ship is a lifeboat drill. Don't be concerned; there will be enough for everyone on board. At the lifeboat drill, you will be told what to do in the unlikely event that you must evacuate the ship.

2. Be aware of those around you

Keep an eye on your drink, and don't leave it unattended. It will only take a moment for someone to slip something into it. It's also not a good idea to accept a drink from someone that you don't know, no matter how nice they may seem.

3. Don't have an open door policy

Don't open the door of your cabin to anyone unless you can verify that they are who they say they are. Know your cabin's steward, and if you feel uncomfortable opening the door go with your instinct. It's better to be wrong and safe than to worry about insulting someone.

Remember, except for those in your party you are traveling with strangers, so be aware of your surroundings and take precautions. If you suspect something suspicious, it's better to err on the side of caution. It's better to be safe and embarrassed than to be foolish and injured or worse.
